Dear Colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to be able to invite you to the UMSS-IUC International Congress, which will take place from 11 to 13 July 2007 at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS), Cochabamba, Bolivia. With this congress, our university wishes to celebrate the completion of its 10-year partner program, in the framework of the University Development Cooperation (UDC) Program of the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR), Belgium, which also acts as the main co-organizer of the congress. It provides a unique opportunity to present the latest developments in each of the six scientific domains that have been supported by the VLIR-UDC program at UMSS, and the ways in which these developments are applied in Latin America. Apart from this, we will show how the advances that have been made are contributing to multi-level and multi-scale sustainability.

Cochabamba is situated in a fertile valley, at 2,558 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by Tunari hill, the Alalay lagoon and the San Sebastian hill. Its climate is generally considered to be the best in the entire country, with warm and sunny days and cool nights. The city and its immediate surroundings show a rich cultural and historic heritage, while visitors often feel enchanted by the economic atmosphere of the place.
