International Congress on Development, Environment and Natural Resources: Multi-level and Multi-scale Sustainability

Socio-economic, environmental and cultural sustainability can be achieved only if sustainability is pursued simultaneously at different spatial scales and levels of decision-making.  By doing so the earth’s natural resources will be utilized in a more conservative way such that they remain available for the current and future generations. The congress general theme is developed in 6 sub-themes related to (1) environmental geotechnics, (2) integrated river basin management, (3) the monitoring, modeling and remediation of the quality of surface water and soils affected by mine activities, (4) continental fisheries and aquatic ecology, (5) biodiversity and the conservation of native forests, and (6) planning and management in an uncertain environment. For each sub-theme a keynote speaker of the North (Belgium) and the South (Latin America) will present his/her view on the current status of knowledge and innovations and the future challenges. Senior and junior scientists, professionals and students from Latin America have the opportunity of presenting a full paper, extended abstract or poster, giving the congress a full international flavor.
